Valladolid was for a time the capital of the Empire, and is now the capital of the Castilla y León region. It is a sample of cities on an undefined relation with their river, judging always from short time visits; the river was more or less the limit of the formal city until the XXth century, when urban growth touched the right bank clearly. The city has a river beach, and the river is crossed by several bridges, and it is not a fringe space, but even being a sizeable space, it is not clear that a corridor with a coherent identity exists. Moneo’s museum tries to address this problem partially, by creating public spaces by the river (perhaps a bit hard in nature) and organizing its relation with a pedestrian bridge.
