The Santa Caterina market (Barcelona) is a good place to give yourself a treat, be it food-related or architectural. According to a logic close to that of Madrid’s gourmet markets, close to the Cathedral, the Miralles- Tagliabue architecture is a must.
I love the architecture. Have you seen Quincy Market in Boston or Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia? They are both historical adaptive reuse developments. And Pike Place Market in Seattle is really unique because it is built on multiple levels cascading down a steep hill…
The first time I visited the US, in 1989, I saw Quincy Market, an I also visited Philly, altough I do not recall Reading terminal ( I was very young…). Anyway, I know your references; but I think that this is closer to some theater conversions in the US that seem a bit more “brave” introducing new elements. If you want a multilevel market, check out tuesday for a french one….
